Okami & the Environment

Our Commitment to the Planet

We are inspired by nature, which makes it our calling to protect our planet and its beings.

It is a little known fact that the digital world is responsible for a huge amount of carbon emissions every year.

In fact, “in 2019 the world’s collective digital carbon footprint accounted for nearly 3.7 percent of all greenhouse emissions, which is comparable to aviation industry emission levels” (Study by The Shift Project, 2021)

As our world continues to grow into a very digital one, we want to become part of the solution and do our best to balance out these outcomes, despite our work being mostly digital & online based.

Some of the ways in which we contribute as a business are:

We donate 4% of every purchase

Every time you choose Okami for one of your creative needs, we will donate 4% of our earnings to an environmental NGO of your choice. We have four beautiful options for you to choose from, who all do amazing things for our planet and wildlife.

1000kg carbon offsetting per year

Every year we do at least 1000kg of carbon offsetting to help counter balance a bit of our digital footprint. Apart from doing as best as we can to make our day to day activities as impact-less as possible.

1 tree with every purchase

Every time we get hired to do projects of $200 or more, we plant a tree on your behalf! We love doing this. We get you to choose which native species to plant and we always make sure we plant them in an ideal location where they will not only thrive, but give beauty, fruits or shade to the creatures around them.

Okami For The Planet

Conscious Lifestyle

We are inspired by nature & it is our strong calling to protect it, Beyond what we do as a business, we are conscious as individuals. We follow a lifestyle that matches our values and mission to protect our planet and help it thrive.

Help the Planet with Okami

By working together we can help our planet and its being one design at a time.

Every time you choose Okami for any service, we donate 4% of our earnings to an environmental NGO of your choice. The options are the four below:

The Mexico Azul Foundation

was born in 2010 with the objective of promoting sustainability of the Mexican seas and their conservation.

Their mission is to preserve threatened marine habitats and species in Mexican waters through research, citizen science, education, and conservation programs.

They focus on the protection of sharks, marine megafauna, and cooperation with fishing communities to promote a more conscious utilization of marine resources, ensuring that our seas remain healthy and balanced.

Reef Restoration Foundation

is a grassroots not-for-profit organisation. They work in partnership with the community, the marine tourism industry and the marine science fraternity to build resilience at key sites on the Great Barrier Reef in changing times.

They grow coral fragments in ocean-based nurseries to assist the natural process of recovery after disturbance. These events are increasing in frequency and severity due to global climate change. It’s up to all of us to ensure the biodiversity of this global icon of the natural world flourishes for future generations.

Bats QLD

is a not-for-profit, volunteer run, bat rescue and rehabilitation organisation based on the Gold Coast in South-East Queensland, Australia.

With the help of about 200 members, they rescue, rehabilitate and release Flying Foxes and Microbats across South East Queensland (Gold Coast to Brisbane area) Australia, as well as educate the general public about their importance.

WWF

The vast Amazon rain forest helps stabilize the local and global climate, harbors at least 10% of the world’s known species, and provides a home for more than 40 million people.

To permanently protect 150 million acres of the Brazilian Amazon, Brazil established the Amazon Region Protected Areas (ARPA) program in 2002. Created in partnership with WWF and others, the program is the world’s largest initiative for the conservation of tropical forests.

The Story Behind the Name

Okami is one of the many kami in Japanese mythology. Kami are spiritual beings that live in the different elements of nature, such as the ocean, mountains, waterfalls and trees.

Kami protect and control nature. They have the capacity to create earthquakes and tsunamis if the natural world isn’t treated with respect and honor by humans.

Okami is the kami of prosperity, and he is often represented as a fox. Foxes are believed to be the messengers of Okami and they can provide protection to whoever encounters them.

The concept behind the name Okami lies behind these values of protecting our natural surroundings.

Our strongest mission is to create unique and beautiful designs and concepts while giving back to our planet every step of the way.
